Default German Coffee Size?????

I now know that there is a difference between a UK cup and a US cup when cooking and thanks to Madame I even know what that is.

But does anyone know what a German Cup is?

We have a new coffee machine and it will do either 'Italian' or 'German,' yes the machine came with instructions but I swear it's longer that War and Peace.

(Plus I can't help giggling whenever it says it "does Italian" or it "does German," 'cause I'm expecting it to say it "does Dallas." )

Just a guess, but does Italian vs. German have something to do with the grind of the beans or the water pressure?

Off to ponder this one a bit.

It sounds more like a reference to steeping time. I'd almost bet the Italian would be the stronger of the two.

**still laughing about "does dallas"** To be honest, I think Alpha is right about it being a strength thing rather than a size thing, since both countries use the metric system.

I think the same thing. I lived in Germany, and I don't remember a significant difference in coffee cup size, but I know my parents always said the German coffee tasted different than American. But I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't be 100% positive.

I had a thought last night, an Italian cup could be a demi-tasse...

In which case I'm moving to Germany. Unfortunately for me I remember none of my high school German and my family spoke a pigeoned German/Hungarian/Rom that no one else could follow outside the neighborhood.
