It was really two separate books. The first book was difficult to survive. The second was her very comfortable formula of love conquering all. I think that Kenyon's fans will read the first book out of loyalty, as I did, but she won't win over any new readers with it. She could have cut all that misery down to ten chapters and still made her point that Ash suffered a horrible childhood and youth.
Artemis was a piece of work. Jeeze. Anyway, I liked the second book, and Tory had some great lines. I haven't seen Alpha or Kell's weigh in on opinion. Color me curious. ??? |

I read Acheron in about 3 days and seem to agree with most people. On the whole, I enjoyed the book but I think Kenyon could have cut 200 pages of torture out and still got the point across. I got to see her at DragonCon this weekend and she told us she had all this background on Ash built up and had to get it out. I can understand the feeling, but still think her editor should have cut her short.
Oh, Alpha finds it amusing that I filpped Ash off at DragonCon. Well, OK, it was the guy who plays Acheron. He was manning Kenyon's booth and we were buying DarkHunter gear. He made the comment that kids were great. He put his hand over his belly and said he'd had two and it didn't hurt a bit. I was wearing a maternity top and not a cute costume for the Con. I didn't find him amusing, Ash or not. I gave him the pinkie finger. Not even a whole hearted flip off. Alpha is still shaking her head. |

It's that whole "we're having a baby" when it's clear to the person prego that WE aren't so much as you are. Despite that all though, it is a group effort. You'll be glad of couple power after. Have you got to the point where the next person that touches your stomach will lose their hand? I got really grouchy about that one from strangers.
I totally agree about the editor. They should have advised more strongly. I felt the same about you know who...JK. |

Potential Spoilers...but I'll try hard.
I've just now started Acheron. I found the first several chapters, those from Ryssa's POV very hard, personally, to read. Fine, tell us about it, have it be what he's reduced to as an adult when they throw him out, but don't take a seven year-old boy who just wants his mommy to hug him and... By later, when Artie makes her appearance, well that part we sort of knew about already. And I'm sorry, her relationship with Apollo is not going to make me feel in the slightest bit sorry for her considering all she does is essentially make Ash a tsoulus for the rest of his 11,000 year existence. So far that that was part of his human life is the only "surprise", we knew most of this and I'm not so keen on reading it all in graphic detail. This is Acheron. We love Acheron.

The graphic detail was REALLY hard for me too. I kept thinking that I should put it down, not read anymore, or skip whole parts because there was too much beating on my favorite character. I could have just read the second book after a summary of abuses and gotten just as much out of it.

*Is finally in the present and reading about Ash and Tory* Sigh of relief. Back to the typical Kenyon pacing.
Have I mentioned I really hate Artemis? And Satara?

http://www.dailyinquisitor.com/hunter//stryker.htm http://www.dailyinquisitor.com/hunter//fury.htm The info on Fury irritated me greatly. She has just described a huge chunk of the back story of one of my characters in my world in Circle of Wolves. Zev. The he is betrayed, must destroy or trust her, angle is one I had mapped out for Zev's story for a very long time now. And with them both being wolves, crap!

But Fury was a character established long ago, wasn't he? I always found him one of her more interesting characters, being considered the lesser brother and then being shoved into the role of leader as he was. The future lover's betrayal is thinly given. It's bound to be very different. Your Zev is safe. Besides, haven't you already published that story?

Fury was established in Vane's book. But in Vane's book Fury says his brother Dare was the one who betrayed him. Said he found out and delivered him to his mother in chains.
I've also got a plot bunny hopping about that would focus on a "Polaris" or Polar Bear. I love Fury. He's my out and out favorite and I've waited for a long time for him to get his own book. I love that it's not Diedra, Bride's sister. I was afraid of that one. I also love the profile. KEindi loves it too, especially the pic that seems to hint at Fury and his heroine. She wants a copy of that one on a magnet. I even liked the anime pic. I'm also very interested in Stryker. I'm curious as hell as to how she's going to spin him into a hero. She said at DragonCon that Stryker's book and the Aimee/Fang book due next summer are "lynchpin" books. You can't miss them as they will spin everything on its head. Circle of Wolves has been accepted (will be released in February) and Zev is introduced. The fact that he was thrown out of his birth pack is established, as well as why. Zev is one of my favorite guys in my head. He has to wait a bit for his story. Matthew is first, then I'm thinking it will either be Zev or Julian next.

Finished reading One Silent Night and the anthology with Fury's story comes out in a couple of days. There may be spoilers below, but I'm trying not to.
One Silent Night wasn't the best book but it was good. I can't say it made me sympathetic toward Stryker even though it did help me understand his motivations a bit better. She is just never going to be able to explain away what he did to Urian. There is no justification for it. The main thing I noticed is this is a must read book. There is so much revealed about the world and characters so much changes about the world, that this was one WTF moment after another. I'd love to know if anyone else thought she was stretching a bit to justify Ash not knowing the "truth" about Nick when Savitar noticed it immediately. I mean especially given the reveals about Ash (just when you thought she'd told all there was about him, this new stuff had me scratching my head going "Huh?" Loved Jared http://www.dailyinquisitor.com/hunter/jared.htm And Nim http://www.dailyinquisitor.com/hunter//nim.htm?54bbc8a0

Zared and Vane are still my favorites.
I just read Dead after Dark and I must say I was a little disappointed I was so looking forward to Fury's story but it felt a bit formulaic to me. Although I would still recommend the book as the second story in the anthology is very hot!! The heroine is supposed to be a hard arse lawyer but actually she's a gullible twit, to say anymore would need a spoiler alert - but read it anyway for the hot vampire guy |

I was a little disappointed in Fury's story as well. (Haven't read the others yet)
Did it seem that Angelia changed her opinion on Fury rather suddenly or was it just me? |

Anyone read this one yet?
There was a lot of re-hashing of the timeline from previous books so if you've read the others much of the plot was just plot's from Kenyon's previous books seen from another POV. I did enjoy it but feel that it hasn't lived up to it's promise, perhaps it's just that I loved Zared and Vane so much that using their stories as a yard stick leaves every thing else a little flat. |

Zarek? or Jared? I haven't read it yet, but Kell has. She says it's nothing really new. Sort of like reading Anne Rice's Blood & Gold, Armand and Pandora. It's the same story from different povs.

Next big Kenyon release is a Kenyon/MacGregor combo. combines the Avalon series and the DarkHunters.
